Orderly selling marred stock market returns on Monday, March 9th - yet again. All major U.S. stock indexes finished in the red, with the Dow, S&P 500, and NASDAQ all plunging by more that 1%. Fittingly, multiple sectors lost significant value and are trading at decade lows. The carnage is highlighted by the fact that 506 of the 3,066 issues trading on the New York Stock Exchange touched 52-week nadirs on the session.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average has broken down to 6,547.

Technology stocks shed dollars upon recession fears. International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM -2.72% / $83.48), Google (NASDAQ: GOOG -5.73% / $290.89), and networking bell weather Cisco (NASDAQ Ticker: CSCO -3.81% / $13.62) were all drubbed.

Of course, there were but a few winners trading higher.

Alcoa and ExxonMobil were bright spots on the Dow. These basic materials stocks advanced upon speculation of an impending OPEC production cut and the machinations surrounding China's very own economic stimulus plan. Aluminum heavyweight Alcoa rose .18, or 3.45% to $5.40, while Exxon added 52 cents to $64.55.

Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) shares also skyrocketed by 19% to close at $3.74 per share. The large move arrives courtesy of a successful $8 billion debt offering by the Charlotte mega bank. Of course, sixty cents appreciation is of little consolation to long term BAC holders that have witnessed their Bank of America holdings deteriorate from $50 to $3 over the past two years. Financial stocks have been completely destroyed by this economic debacle.

Merck and Schering-Plough Announce $41 Billion Merger

Merck (NYSE: MRK) and Schering-Plough (NYSE: SGP) announced a reverse-merger. The pharmaceutical giants will label the resulting company Merck, although Schering-Plough is listed as the surviving entity.

SGP shares spiked on the news by 14% to $20; while Dow 30 component acquirer Merck fell by 7.7% to $20.99. The acquisition did nothing to inspire confidence in Big Pharma. Johnson and Johnson and Pfizer shares retreated by 2.9% and .8%, respectively.

The mood on Wall Street has become so dour that not even a blockbuster $41 billion deal is able to stoke markets. Still, somebody, somewhere is making money.

Is there such a thing as boat ramp etiquette? Of course there is, and most boaters are aware of it. But, as in all aspects of life, there are some people who need to be reminded that they need to practice common courtesy. These boaters should be aware of there surroundings and avoid becoming a "boat ramp hog" which can lead to "ramp rage".

Proper boating etiquette is generally responsible for the boater in question spending as little time on the ramp as possible. By establishing a routine that is followed each time the boater takes his/her boat out, this boating etiquette can become second nature. This routine has three phases, they are pre-launch, launch and loading.

The pre-launch phase of boating ramp etiquette involves preparing the boat for launch. This phase occurs before the boat is backed down the ramp. During this phase, the boater should remove all the tie-downs on the boat, but the winch line should not be removed yet, all the equipment that is in the boaters vehicle should be transferred to the boat and the boater should put the boat's drain plug in. The boater should also prime the fuel by pumping the fuel bulb, place the key in the ignition and check the battery (which could be done at the boater's home or where ever the boat is stored). The trailer lights should be unplugged from the tow vehicle if they are not waterproof and sealed. If there is more than one person enjoying this boating trip, every one except for the tow vehicle driver should get in the boat, or at least one other person so they can drive the boat once it has been launched. If only one person will be enjoying this boating trip, then they can attach the boat line to the trailer or vehicle to keep it from drifting away from the boater until they can get to it.

After the pre-launch phase has been completed, the boater can back their boat down the ramp to the water, stopping just before the entry to the water and then unhook the winch line from the boat. Waiting until the entry to the water can keep the boat from unloading before it is time to, which could be in the middle of the ramp. If this were to happen the boater may be the victim of "ramp rage". The boater should also check to make sure that they did indeed undo the tie downs that keep the boat on the trailer. After the boat has been launched and disconnected from the tow vehicle, move it to the courtesy dock and immediately move the tow vehicle. Also, boaters should not stay at the courtesy dock any longer than absolutely necessary if there are other boaters using the ramp to load or unload their boats. If there is a person in the boat who can drive it, they can move it away from the dock until the other person is finished parking the tow vehicle, then the boat can be returned to the courtesy dock to pick up the person who has just parked the tow vehicle.

The last phase of boat ramp etiquette is loading the boat back on the boat trailer. Considering that most boaters are tired from their day in the sun, they can have short tempers and this is not the time to hog the boat ramp. Boaters loading their boat should simply back their tow vehicle with the boat trailer down the ramp, load the boat, hook the winch line on the boat and drive the tow vehicle back up the ramp to the parking lot. Only after they are off the boat ramp should the boater unload their boat, pull the drain plug and properly tie down their boat.

The Stock Market interiors by _gem_

The Neopian Stock market is a wonderful game that literally generates neopoints for you. It's a game you will spend 5 minutes each day "playing" yet you will make thousands upon thousands of neopoints. This guide will explain how the Neopets stock market works and will give you a step by step instruction on how to use it to its maximum efficiency.

The Stock Market game is a game with almost zero risk and with extremely high rewards. The only way you can lose neopoints is if you sell stocks for less then what you bought them for, but that won't happen if you follow my guide.

First of all, we need to explain how the stock market works. There are a total of 43 companies, each with a different current price with some being as low as 6, to others in the hundreds. In the stock market, one can buy only 1000 shares each and every day. The company you can buy from must currently be at 15 neopoints a share or more.

To buy a stock you click on your desired companies ticker which brings you to the company profile, click on the name of the company to purchase shares in it. Where it says number of shares, you can type in a number between 1-1000.

Now, before you go buying a bunch of stock in random companies you need to know the best way to make neopoints. The key to making a lot of neopoints on the stock market is following the following strategy.

1. Each and every day, go to the stock market and purchase 1000 shares of any stock listed at 15. This way you invest the smallest amount of NP and it maximizes your future profits.

2. As your portfolio grows, you need to diversify. What I mean by diversify is that you need to buy stock in many different companies. For example, if everyday for the last 5 days you have bought 1000 shares in DROO because it has been at 15, you should buy stock in a different company at 15. Buying in as many companies as possible diversifies your portfolio. The main reason you need to diversify is because the more companies you have, the better chance that one will hit your selling point.

3. Set a selling point, preferably 60. Stocks rise and fall. Some of your stocks will linger below 15 for a while and it's OK, leave them alone. All stocks rise eventually and when they do, they usually hit 60 neopoints per share. This is when you sell that company.

In conclusion, if you buy stocks at 15 neopoints a share daily and only sell when that company hits 60, your investment of 15,000 NP will increase 300%. Following this strategy will make you pure profit. Unlike the bank, where your neopoints stay unchanged, the stock market triples your original investment. Think about it, every time you invest 15,000, you're bound to sell it for 60,000. If that is not a great way to make a ton of neopoints, I don't know what is.

Remember, the stock market it a game of patience, there will be periods of time where none of your stocks are rising and many are sadly sitting below 15 NP per share. Don't worry about it and DON'T sell at a loss, ever! In due time, every stock will rise. I wish you good luck in making millions at the neopian stock market.

Why to Start Investing Now by palynp

When you're getting into investing you need to invest in companies who have something tangible to offer the marketplace. Something that the market wants but doesn't have. For the even more advanced investor, stock picking is about looking at what a company offers and imagining the demand in the future in the market. Penny stocks are the perfect space for that just because they are offering the world something it may not already have. At the very least penny stock investing is about giving the market something it doesn't have enough of.

Looking for the next best stock before its gotten popular is a little bit like discovering the next boy band before they're NSYNC. You need to have a certain threshold for quality control and you need to be able to see the products use in the world.

When you're trying to pick winners in penny stock investing, considering the world around you is the best place to start. Consider that roll of paper towels in your closet. Now look around those all natural paper towels.

What are the trends? Eco? Green? Reusable? Organic? Hybrid?

Where else do these trends enter your life? Bath products, food, home care, cleaning supplies, vehicles?

So who makes these products? These are the companies you're looking for; the ones introducing the newest trends. Then who are these trend pushers partnering with? These smaller companies with new ideas and limited exposure; these may be the ones who have the stock that you're looking for.

Even if it's a trend you don't necessarily see the need for, that doesn't make its place in the market any less valid. You, as an adult, are not going to have any ability to get at your stem cell tissue. However you could have a child forthcoming, a nephew, or grandchild on the way. If your family history has a genetic predisposition to terminal illnesses, getting the stem cells of your next of kin can save lives of the next generation. So stem cell research companies may be something you should look into.

Finding your penny stocks niche in the marketplace before the marketplace can make you a very rich person. Once you've deciphered that your company not only has something of value to offer the market that's also original, you should buy in, double down, and hold on for the ride!

Stock Trading for Beginners, a Complete How-To by palynp

Options trading has been the centre of much debate of recent years. Is options trading dangerous? Can we go bankrupt on Options Trading? Indeed, options as a form of derivative instrument is far more complex than the stocks that they are written based on and, like a wild stallion, can hurt you if you do not understand how it works and how to use it properly.

This brings us to the topic of this article.

In this article, I shall present 5 reasons why options trading is actually better than stock trading in order to dispel the age old myths of how dangerous options trading is. Let's remember this: Options trading is dangerous only when you do not understand it.

1) Variable Leverage

The leverage that options trading give you is perhaps the main reason why people gravitate to options trading in the first place. Leverage is the ability to do more with the same amount of money. Trading options allows you to make a lot more profit on the same move on the underlying stock. When you buy the stock itself without margin, you are merely making 1% profit on a 1% move in your favor. However, in options trading, you could be making 10% profit on that same 1% move the stock made or even up to 100% on that same 1% move!

Yes, the beauty of leverage in options trading, unlike in futures trading, is that it is VARIABLE!

Leverage in options trading is variable, you could take on more leverage for more risk or lesser leverage for lesser risk by choosing options of different strike prices and/or expiration month. In general, the more out of the money options, the higher the leverage and the more in the money options, the lower the leverage.

Leverage cuts both ways. This is why the beauty of leverage in options trading is that it allows you to do the same trades with much lesser money, as such, you could simply use only money you can afford to and intend to lose in any failed trade for each options trade so leverage actually help you control your losses instead!

2) Low Capital Requirement

Apple Inc. , AAPL, is trading at $295.36 today which means it takes $29,536 to buy 100 shares today. However, AAPL's at the money call options costs only something like $715 to control the profits on that same 100 shares of Apple!

3) Bet Downwards Without Margin

In order to profit from a downwards move on a stock in stock trading, you could only short the stock which incurs margin. However, in options trading, all you need to do in order to bet on a stock going downwards is to BUY its put options with no margin needed at all. That's right, buying put options for profit to downside works exactly the same as buying call options for profit to upside. There is no need to own the stock beforehand and there is no need for margin!

4) Multi-Directional Profits

In stock trading, you only profit when the stock goes in the direction you want it to. Upwards when you buy the stock or downwards when you short the stock. There is no way to profit in both scenarios simultaneously and there is no way to profit if the price of the stock does not move. However, in options trading, such multi-directional profits are possible! There are options strategies that allows you to profit no matter if the stock goes upwards or downwards quickly and there are options strategies that profits even if the price of the stock remains unchanged! Such is the real magic of options strategies which greatly increases your chances of winning in options trading versus stock trading!

5) Play Banker

Sick and tired of always being at the player's side of the table? In options trading, you could switch instead to the banker's side of the table and do what market makers do by selling options to people who are wants to take the side of the player! When the players lose, as they often do, you get to keep the bet as profit just like a real banker! Only options trading has the "bet" which you get to keep and it is known as "extrinsic value".

As you can see by now, options trading is indeed far more powerful and safe than stock trading if you do it correctly. To learn more about what you can do with options, visit our Options Trading website at Optiontradingpedia.com .

Handicap Ramps For Each And Every Room In The House

Ramp Finished - meeting deck by NationalLumber

Aging affects everyone, and that is just as true for your dog as for anyone else. Many dog owners (especially new ones) do not think to plan for what happens as the dog ages. Here are just a few of the things all pet owners should take into consideration and plan for.

Arthritis and other painful physical conditions. If your dog is accustomed to going down steps in order to use the bathroom in the yard, he or she will have a difficult time doing so if he develops arthritis. If you find this is happening to your pet, consider installing a handicap ramp, just as you would for any other member of the family. This will make your dog's trip to the yard much more comfortable and will lessen the likelihood that he will fall down the steps.

Incontinence and accidents. Aging dogs and people often find it difficult to control their bladders as they age due to incontinence. Because this condition is called by a weakening bladder, which makes it difficult or even impossible for the sufferer to hold his water, it is vitally important that you don't punish or shame your pet for accidents. He truly can't help it. Consider doggie diapers, a pad that you change often or simply accepting that there will now be more clean-up now that your dog is elderly. Whatever you do, however, don't kick a house dog out of the house or confine her in a space away from the family. This can be absolutely devastating.

Changes in personality. Yes, dogs can go senile, suffer from dementia or have strokes. Your pet may begin barking for no reason or may show signs of fear if someone approaches. If your dog begins snapping or biting, take the safety of the rest of the family, and remove the dog from contact if necessary. However, whatever symptoms your dog is exhibiting must be discussed with his veterinarian. There may be a simple explanation, such as snapping because he now has arthritis and was touched too roughly. In this case you may have to confine the dog until you determine the cause.

One of the most important things to do when caring for an aging pet is to watch for signs of physical problems so that conditions may be stopped before they do real damage, or so that chronic pain may be dealt with through monitoring and medication. It is, however, also very important to make sure that your pet still feels like a loved member of the family. This may mean making concessions such as cleaning up after accidents or not purchasing that brand-new white carpet until the pet is no longer with you. Your dog has given you a lifetime of unconditional love. Caring for him in his old age is a great way to return the favor.
